Sipsey River Couples Canoe Adventure

There is something magical about the way a river moves.  It is not without a little faith that a paddler embarks on a journey downstream not knowing what may lie around the next bend.  A river expedition becomes the perfect marriage of excitement and trepidation, anticipation and fear, promise and doubt.  The commitment...once the boat has launched, there is no turning back.  It's all or nothing.  Go big or go home.  It is not unlike our journey through marriage.  A wild ride to be sure!  From the crazy, racing heartbeat of passionate rapids to the hard work of paddling thru the doldrums.  It will take both working together to reach the take out at the end of this voyage.

Born wild is planning our first formal overnight canoe trip and you are invited!  This will be a 20-mile float trip thru some of Alabama's most scenic wilderness.  This section of the river is very mild with one small class I(II) rapid called the 100 yard dash.  We will leave Huntsville Saturday morning bound for Bankhead National Forest and the Sipsey River.  After loading the boats, we'll launch at the Sipsey Recreation Area off Co. Road 60.  At about the 8-9 mile mark, we will put over and set up camp for the night complete with a roaring fire and a big dinner.  Sunday will roll a little slower as we start to paddle into Smith Lake.  Our take out and the end of our river journey will be Highway 278 near Double Springs.
