Many times, we find ourselves in the middle of a long path without realizing where it all began.  This is often true in our life.  If only we had a glimpse of the origins, the current scene of our journey might make more sense.  It helps to know the rest of the story...

Mark your calendars for this winter wilderness trip to the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.  We will leave Huntsville early Thursday morning and hit the trail by early afternoon.  We will start at Cooper Gap and head south along this ancient path.  Our first day in the woods will have a couple of steep climbs but the total mileage for the day will only be about 4 miles...a perfect warm up!  Day two will be a full challenge as we climb Springer Mountain to the begining of the 2000-mile trail.  We will spend the night camped out around the Springer Mountain shelter.  Our third day will be our longer day as we decend the famous Approach Trail in to Amilacola Falls State Park passing the the 729-foot waterfall on the way to the park lodge.  By Saturday, our team will check in to the beautiful lodge, take some well-deserved showers, and celebrate our journey with a full all-you-can-eat buffet!  The schedule Sunday will include a breakfast, some final reflection time, and the drive back to Huntsville.
